Martry Mill at the 2014 International Bread Festival

We attended the International Bread Festival in Castle Ward on the 5th of May as part of The Mills and Millers of Ireland (MMOI).

We were set up in the Old Mill Building, which was a very apt setting for the organisation and our own business. MMOI had three tables; one showcasing Martry Mill, another showcasing the work, events and information gathered by the MMOI and an area outside which showed how mill wheels work. We set up monitors with slideshows and videos, where visitors could take a break and enjoy some visual history.

Our table had a slideshow of the restoration work we’ve completed, literature on Martry Mill and its history, packets of our stoneground flour and free bread for visitors! We thoroughly enjoyed talking to all the people who stopped by our table; there’s a lot more people interested in milling than you’d think!

The International Bread Festival is definitely a must see for any miller, bread enthusiast or foodie. As well as our own display on breads, flour, milling and the Mills and Millers of Ireland, there were demonstrations of bread making, talks from top bakers, old craft presentations and a wide variety of local Irish foods.
